what happens in a session?

If you’ve never experienced a biodynamic craniosacral therapy session before, below are a few questions and answers to make you understand the process and feel comfortable turning up.

  • Many people come to BCST for relief from dis-ease, headaches and migraines, digestive discomfort, Temporomandibular disorders, joint and muscular discomfort, anxiety, inflammation, trauma, autoimmune conditions, hormonal shifts, or feelings of burnout to name a few. Others are simply looking for a space to drop into deep rest and reset their system.

  • We will start with an initial chat about what has brought you to todays session. You will then lie fully clothed on the treatment table and I will most likely start by holding your feet. Your system will guide me as to where I need to treat, either staying at the feet, or moving to different parts of your body that require reintegration or support. This is a client-led modality.

  • Please be comfortable and warm. You will be lying fully clothed on a massage table, in some cases you will be side-lying or seated – your comfort is paramount so please take this into consideration when coming to your session. I have blankets for additional warmth.

  • Depending on your awareness of your own body, there may be talking throughout, or you may lie in relative silence. You are always welcome to talk, or ask questions and move throughout the session - I want you to be as comfortable as possible.

  • Your feedback, consent and safety is paramount to me, and feedback is always welcomed, I encourage you to please let me know at any stage during the session if you are not comfortable, would like to stop or share your experience in the moment, all is welcome.

  • I recommend that you take some time after your session to nurture and nourish yourself, further supporting the changes that may take place during your session.

    You may find that you feel some irritability, some emotions arising, some tiredness or increased energy, this is simply the body and your psyche processing and it is suggested to take a gentle stroll or a bath and to have a rest. The session can continue to integrate for 48 hours after the session. If you feel spacey or overwhelmed, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, you are welcome to provide feedback or ask questions at any point in the session or following.

    If we are able to allow our feelings to flow, tension and stress will release, healing will occur and we will come into a state of greater health and wellbeing. If we stop the flow of our natural emotions and experiences by analysing them, ignoring them, or not allowing ourselves to rest, or feel them, the stress and tension will return.

  • For most clients, I would recommend a minimum of 3 sessions. For long term or acute situations, a series of 6-10 sessions is recommended at regular (weekly or fortnightly) intervals. We can discuss what is needed after the initial session and reassess with each session.

    These sessions are not used as a diagnostic tool, they are therapeutic and not designed for one off treatments or quick fixes. I will be supporting your body, mind and spirit to clear out anything that is not needed and make space for greater health and wellbeing. 

    Regular maintenance sessions are recommended to support your health and as a regular check in and support. Once a month is usually a great support for your optimal health and wellbeing.
